LEATHER ROUND TABLE
“Responsible Leather Round Table” - A Textile Exchange initiative
What is it?
The leather Round Table is a platform for stakeholders in the leather industry meant for sharing information, enabling interacting between organizations and governments cooperating towards the promotion of best practices. This program is still in development and works mostly as a roundtable between all players in the industry.
Who is behind?
RLRT is developed by Textile Exchange, a global non-profit organization, that works closely with all sectors of the textile supply network.
Back in 2017 they started focusing on the impact of the leather value chain and the absence of a common framework shared by all the players. They pulled together over 350 stakeholders from all the stages of leather production (including NGOs and special interest groups), and the result was the Responsible Leather Round Table.
What is the goal?
The goal is to achieve full supply chain traceability, from the birthing farm to the shelf. Provide a platform where everyone can participate, share information and drive the development of an assessment tool for the leather industry.
Their main goal is to pursue a continuous improvement of the leather value chain in order to promote environmental and social responsibility, economic viability, and animal welfare.
Leather Round Table educate and inform brands and retailers on the many aspects of leather, its production, and where it comes from through fx. Their Leather Learning Series- webinars where anyone can participate.
